BetVictor Review

Previously known as VCBet after the company’s founder and long-time owner Victor Chandler, BetVictor are still bearing his name and are a bookmaker with deep roots in British gambling, although they are currently based in Gibraltar. Their primary customer base remains in the UK and their main business is sports betting, but they also run very successful casino and poker sites.

With a new website and excellent in-play betting function, BetVictor offers some of the best odds around and although their range of games covered is not quite as extensive as some of their competitors they do cover a diverse range of markets. The betting platform is very user-friendly and not at all cluttered even on a small screen but the absence of live-streaming is a weakness some will find significant. We'll also take a look at the casino games offered by BetVictor, including a standalone slots suite, assessing the range of games and the quality.

Odds & Markets

BetVictor covers all of the most popular match-ups in all of the most popular sports. They may not cover quite as many games as some of the other big bookmakers but they certainly offer some of the best odds in the markets they do cover. Football for example is a massive strength of theirs.

The bookmaker has recently been named by an independent body as the best bookmaker (when it comes to odds) for betting on the top European football competitions, as well as all Premier League and FA cup action over the past four seasons when compared to 17 other leading bookmakers. So while you may not always get the largest range of markets with BetVictor you often get the best odds around if you know what you’re looking for.

Another thing to mention is that the often have an excellent selection of novelty and specials markets aside from the standard offerings to be found elsewhere. They love to put on specials on manager sack races for example as well as season-long team and player specials which are not always covered as extensively by their competitors.

Features

In-Play Betting

The in-play betting feature on BetVictor is popular with punters because it is so easy to use. You can easily monitor all of your bets whilst browsing other markets and keeping up on live scores. Another useful feature is that changing odds are highlighted in the market you’re viewing so you don’t have to pay close attention to see what’s changing.

They may not have a live stream function but the next best thing is the ability to watch live media coverage of sports,as well as a graphical representation of some games in real time. For example, football markets will display who’s in possession and an approximate location of the ball on the pitch as well as notifying you of significant events like goals and cards.

Mobile Betting

There’s a general sports betting and casino app which is essentially the website in mobile form, as well as more stripped down versions called BetVictor Instabet and Spincast Football Betting, which allow users to take advantage of faster betting, time-limited odds enhancements and much more.

Other Gaming

BetVictor also runs a live poker site which has its own multi-platform client, as well as live casino and slots sections. You can also choose from three different mobile apps which are compatible with phones and tablets, although simply accessing the site via your mobile browser is also a great option.

Casino Games

All of the games at BetVictor Casino are instant play, meaning you don’t have to download any additional software to get access to 100% of their games. Their games come from a variety of different software providers including IGT, Microgaming, NetEnt, Novomatic, OpenBet and others, giving you a huge number of games to choose from.

The games are divided into slots, blackjack, roulette, other table games and video poker. The video poker is separate from the site’s poker section which has its own standalone client accessible through the top menu, whilst the table games are separate from the live dealer casino which is also available through the top menu. This can be slightly confusing as the slots you can access through the top menu are the same as those available through the casino tab but otherwise it’s fairly easy to navigate.

The slot range is truly phenomenal, with well over 500 different games available. Popular themes include Game of Thrones, The Dark Knight and Cleopatra. Many of the games also operate progressive jackpots which regularly payout over a million pounds. To check out which games have the highest progressive jackpots accumulated you can check a list in the sidebar which is updated in real time. Mega Moolah and The Dark Knight in particular have paid out jackpots of over £5 million and regularly boast huge progressives.

For those more interested in table games there are around 25 unique versions of both blackjack and roulette such as Vegas Blackjack and Pinball Roulette. The table games menu then offers you some single player poker variants and less common casino games such as casino war and red dog, as well as old favourites like baccarat.

As mentioned earlier, poker players have the option of downloading the BetVictor poker client from the other part of their website but they can also get some practice and have a bit of fun in the single player video poker section of the casino. Around twenty different versions are available including Deuces Wild and Joker Poker.

All of the games are available on the free BetVictor app which is the same app used for sports betting and operates on all devices operating on iOS or Android. If you use both services it’s nice to have them in the same place and the app is cleanly designed and simple to use, whilst in-browser access, simply by navigating to the site on your phone, is probably the easiest way to play mobile casino games.

Who are BetVictor?

William Chandler started the BetVictor story in 1925 when he started Walthamstow’s greyhound racing stadium. His son, Victor, began taking bets in the 1940s and the company established a reputation as “The Gentleman Bookmaker” as they targeted the top end of the market in their early years and they have retained that image somewhat to this day. Led by Victor’s son, also called Victor, the company moved its operations to Gibraltar in 1998 where it still has headquarters, although the company is regulated and licensed by the UK Gambling Commission, one of the most respected bodies in the industry.

The business stayed in the family for a long time, despite a number of changes in name, including Victor Chandler, VCBet and then finally the current name of BetVictor. Victor recently (2014) sold the business, although he is still employed in a consultancy role by new owner, racing enthusiast Michael Tabor. The casino side of operations was launched in 1996 with the Spin Room which was a fairly low-tech but easy to use website plugin that provided access to a few casino games. The new BetVictor Casino is an evolution of that, although revolution may be more accurate given how far it has come from those early days.

Now based in Gibraltar the company has a client base of over half a million customers in 160 different countries and an annual turnover estimated in the region of £1 billion. The company was the first UK bookmaker to move entirely offshore and whilst this no longer has the same tax benefits due to a change in UK law, the innovative spirit that was behind the move back in 1999 is still very much evident in the company today.
