Cricket Betting
For a sport with a following numbering in the billions, and one which has produced some of the greatest characters and athletes to grace any field of play, cricket does not command as big a betting market as sports with a similar repute. Test cricket has brought little but negative headlines to the betting scene, but the rise of the limited overs games has given punters and spectators something to be excited about.
The battle against match- and spot-fixing is far from won but things are certainly improving. Also, the growth of big T20 leagues all over the world has increased the betting opportunities all year round, where previously British bookmakers would only have offered odds during the summer.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) has inspired the formation of leagues in England, Australia and the West Indies, while Test, ODI and T20 series happen on the international stage in the summers of both hemispheres. All in all this combines to make cricket betting a near-365 day option and whilst it will never compete with football in terms of the range of bets, it still has much to offer.
