888 Review

888Sport ScreenshotIt’s probably fair to say that 888 have been one of the biggest success stories over the last couple of years in the sports betting industry. The company is huge - there is no denying that, but they are best known for their foray into online casino and poker to some extent rather than sports betting.

888 has managed to turn this around though and almost done a complete flip in terms of where they are heading. The sportsbook has been developed and redesigned to one of the best in the industry. They have clearly invested a lot of time and resources into improving this side of the brand, and whilst it may not have overtaken their casino efforts just yet, it’s certainly been a successful pursuit from this exciting bookmaker moving forward.

Odds & Markets

The pricing structure at 888sports has always been very strong and it’s been one of the reasons why it attracts so many professional bettors. What we found is that the brand can be very hit or miss though, with some odds being best priced by some distance and then others being fairly middle of the road, if not poor.

If you are looking to bet on football then there are very few bookmakers that really challenge 888sport. In fact, we can comfortably say they are in the top 5 when it comes to both pricing and market coverage. What’s great about the site is that they often run price hikes for certain football matches, which can be accessed by existing players, making them rather lucrative to say the least.

The market coverage for most sports is excellent. Again, football is probably where the majority sites coverage lies and each football match is getting well in excess of 200 markets to bet on, with higher profile games even surpassing this amount.

The site isn’t limited to just football betting though and we were able to see that there are dozens of sports each with a comprehensive range of markets. Sports, such as Ice Hockey, American football, horse racing and basketball were excellently covered, with leagues, races and matches from around the globe.

888Sport Features Screenshot

One of the standout features for us has to be the new design that was implemented in 2016. It’s not a unique design in that we have seen other bookmakers with a very similar layout, but it’s one that works really well, with floating boxes and an easy navigation bar to select exactly where you want to go.

Live Betting

The live betting section is an area that has seen a fair amount of upheaval, as well as bringing it up to speed with all  the competition. Clicking on a match will drag up a 3-tiered layout, with the markets running down the left, score and latest betting markets for that match through the middle and the live overview of the match down the right. You are also able to click a statistics button that shows up what’s gone on previously for that game.

Mobile Betting

Finally, we wanted to touch on the mobile betting app, which can be accessed via the website by entering your email, scanning the QR code or entering your mobile number and they will text you a link to download it on your desired platform. The app includes all the betting markets and features that you can see from the online bookmaker and runs super smoothly - even on a limited 3G connection.

Stats by Betradar

The stats section at 888Sport is powered by Betradar, who themselves have made great improvements to the information that is on offer. They cover a huge number of sports, although we will say that some have better coverage than others, for example football is massive, but Futsal is not so great.

The section is able to offer up a great insight into potential bets that can be made and what we really liked is that the stats were linked with betting markets. For example, they allowed you to see previous form for Match betting and also average goals per game for markets such as over/under total goals. With it you can also see where each team ranks within their respected leagues and even information on individual players, mainly targeting first/last/anytime goalscorer markets.

Casino Games

888 Casino Games Screenshot

Like so many of the higher end online casinos, 888 Casino utilises a number of software providers for their games. These include Electracade, GamesOS/CTXM, Cryptologic (WagerLogic), 888 Gaming, IGT (WagerWorks), Cassava, Blueprint Gaming, Dragonfish (Random Logic) and Random Logic.

What’s interesting is that the range of games that they use isn’t all that high, with around 200 to choose from in total. This is mainly because they run a lot of their games through their won proprietary software. This also allows them to offer both a download and a flash based version of the casino for it’s players.

The slots section offers up a decent range of games to choose from and is the biggest section on site. What you will find is that whilst the quantity of games is fairly low, the quality is very high. Some of the standout games for us included South Park, Jack Hammer, A Nightmare on Elms Street and of course, Gonzo’s Quest.

There are around  10 jackpot games to choose from, with most of them running through their own network provider. This in turn means that the jackpots are of a decent size, with the player pool getting access to each game being fairly large.

The range of tables that you can choose from is a little disappointing if truth be told. You get to choose from just 8 games in total, which include European Roulette, Multihand Blackjack, American Roulette, American Blackjack, 3D Roulette, classic Blackjack, Low Stakes Roulette and French Roulette.

Who are 888?

It’s probably fair to say that 888 are one of the biggest gambling outlets in the world. But, the company has undergone many changes since their integration way back in 1997. They started life in the online poker sector before then expanding to include that of online casino. Brothers, Avia and Aaron Shaked, hold a 50% stake in the company and are the majority shareholders for 888 Holdings888 Holdings PLC. The company own a number of different outlets, such as 888poker, 888casino and 888bingo. The group is widely thought of to be one of the most successful in the whole of the gambling industry, with a reported revenue of £454.7 million in 2014.

The brand is now part of Cassava Enterprises who are based out of Gibraltar, allowing 888 to operate in many areas around the world, including the UK. The casino includes some of the bigger game developers such as PlayTech and Microgaming, but you’ll find that they actually produce and distribute the majority the games in-house, making them unique compared to most online casinos in the industry. The sportsbook was launched in 2008 and since then has gone on to sponsor a number of high profile sporting events around the world.
