Gala Casino Review

Gala Casino ScreenshotThe Gala Casino is the online casino of Gala Coral Group, one of the largest gambling companies in the UK. Well known for their bingo division, Gala launched the casino in 2011 along with a re-vamp of the bingo under the joint banner of Gala Interactive which remained a subsidiary of the Gala Coral Group.

In this review we’ll be looking exclusively at the casino but the association with Coral, who run a number of land based bookmakers and casinos in the UK, is obviously a part of their credibility as a brand. However this also creates big expectation and in this review we’ll be analysing to what extent they’ve lived up to the promise.

Casino Games

Since the re-launch, most of the casino’s games are powered by industry leading Playtech software, although they also have games from IGT, Ashgaming and Quickspin amongst others. The games are all available for instant play through the online flash casino but you can also download the standalone client if you’d prefer to have all the games in one place.

The casino itself has around 200 games which is fairly average, but then there’s a separate section which is just for slots which contains over 300 games. There is however some overlap between the two so all in all there are probably somewhere around 400 unique games which puts the casino at the broader end of the spectrum when it comes to variety.

The slot games are sorted into 14 different categories so you don’t have to trawl the long list of over 300 every time you want to find a new game. These are mostly sorted by themes such as Sports and From the Big Screen including titles like Iron Man 3, Gladiator and Frankie Dettori’s Magic Seven. You can also see the most popular games, newest games and the games with the largest progressive jackpots. Titles like Beach Life, Pet Luck and Pirate Plunder regularly have seven figure jackpots, with prizes up to two or three million pounds not uncommon.

The casino’s table games selection is fairly impressive when compared to competitors. It is divided into “table games” and “card games” but together these make nearly 40 different titles and 11 different types of roulette alone including Marvel Roulette, 3D Roulette and Premium Roulette from several different regions.

Another roulette game available is the live roulette which is one of the live games the casino has on offer along with blackjack and baccarat. You can play via a live stream of one of their 13 (all female!) dealers and place bets. You can also communicate with the dealers and other players between rounds using the live chat feature, making the experience a bit more personal and authentic.

For poker players Gala have their own poker service, but that’s not the subject of this review. If you’re looking to practice or just have a bit of fun in a poker-related game, the casino has a range of video poker games such as 2 Ways Royal and Aces and Faces, which are all single player poker games, some of which are available on mobile.

Any games that are available to play on mobile platforms are indicated with a small golden smartphone logo. You can play games directly in your mobile browser or you can download an iPad or iPhone version of the mobile casino in the App Store, whilst there’s also an Android version available. Alternatively you can scan the bar code from the website or send a text to receive the download link directly to your phone. All the same login details apply for the mobile app as your account on the website.

On the High Street

A huge part of Gala has been part of the high street, with a plethora of casinos and bingo halls being run across the UK and Europe. They have been in operation since 1991 and to this day are still able to boast around 140 clubs, a number which has declined since the smoking ban in 2007. They still also entertain around 25 casinos, although a sale of 19 casinos in 2013 to the Grosvenor group has again seen this number hit rock bottom from their peak.

Who Are Gala Casino?

Gala Coral Group was founded in 1991, following the acquisition of Granada Theatre Limited, a bingo operator, by Coral. The new bingo clubs were re-branded with the name Gala which was then fully integrated with Coral in 2005 when Coral Eurobet merged with them, creating one of the largest betting companies in the country and indeed Europe.

The Gala Group group had already acquired some casinos and after the merger the group re-launched the online bingo along with a new look casino. The casino headquarters are in Nottingham where they employ over 250 people although some parts of the business have now been moved to Gibraltar. The casino is licensed and regulated in the UK by the Gambling Commission and given this body is one of the most rigorous in the industry, any potential players not reassured sufficiently by the brand name alone can rest assured that playing at Gala is 100% safe and fair.
